The Plant Biotechnology Lab, Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Alberta, is seeking a highly motivated Master's or PhD student to join our research team in:
* Metabolic engineering of yeast for the production of value-added bioproducts
* Improving crop productivity and sustainability through canola hybrid breeding
The successful candidate will work in a collaborative team in laboratory and greenhouse environments, conducting research that includes:
- In silico assessment of gene families
- Generation of plant binary constructs
- Canola transformation
- Physiological and phenotypic evaluation of transgenic plants
- Genetic analysis and molecular characterization
University of Alberta Scholarship 2025 Requirements
To be considered for the scholarship, you must:
* Have a Bachelor’s in biology or a related discipline (for MSc applicants) or a Master’s of Science (for PhD applicants) in plant molecular biology or a related field
* Be willing to register in the University of Alberta’s MSc or PhD Program
* Demonstrate a strong foundation in plant molecular biology
* PhD candidates should also have hands-on experience in plant tissue culture and transformation
* Knowledge of computational methods for analyzing gene and protein sequences is advantageous
* Have excellent organizational abilities and communication skills (both written and verbal)
* Proven capacity for effective collaboration
* Satisfy the admission requirements established by the University of Alberta’s Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science
* Have a minimum GPA of 3.3 with a proven ability to work independently
* Demonstrate proficiency in English
* The opportunity is open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, and foreign students
