The University of Global Health Equity (UGHE), in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, is now accepting applications for the Master of Science in Health Professions Education (MSc in HPE); a fully funded program for aspiring health educators and leaders across Africa. This program prepares professionals to design, deliver, and evaluate high-quality, innovative, and equitable health education programs across the continent.
Program Overview
The MSc in HPE is designed for experienced educators and academic leaders who aspire to:
- Shape national health professions education (HPE) policy
- Lead health education institutions
- Contribute to global education and healthcare outcomes
Graduates will become experts in HPE, equipped to lead, innovate, influence policy, and improve health outcomes across Africa.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply, candidates must:
1. Be 35 years old or under at the time of application (exceptions for applicants with disabilities)
2. Be citizens, residents, or hold refugee status in an African country
3. Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field (attach official transcript and certificate)
4. Have professional experience in teaching, supervision, or educational leadership within a health-related institution (or show teaching potential for early-career applicants)
5. Provide a signed and stamped institutional endorsement letter (if currently employed) confirming support for participation
6. Not hold a master’s degree, as those who already do are ineligible
Scholarship Benefits
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program covers:
* Full tuition fees
* Return tickets and health insurance (for in-person sessions in Rwanda)
* Monthly stipend
* Laptop
* Mentorship, entrepreneurship, leadership, and innovation training
* Fellowship opportunities
* Pre-arrival support and official onboarding
* Accommodation and meals during in-person sessions
Scholars must:
* Sign a scholarship agreement upon acceptance
* Maintain UGHE’s academic standards
* Comply with UGHE’s rules and regulations

How to Apply

2. Upload all required documents:
- Passport, National ID, or Refugee ID
- Academic transcripts and degree certificate
- Employer recommendation letter (if applicable)
3. Submit one fully completed application. Incomplete or multiple submissions will not be considered.
