The University of Sydney Law School is offering the prestigious Cooke and Alfred Godfrey Scholarship for prospective postgraduate research students commencing study in 2026. This scholarship provides a generous stipend of AUD $50,000 per year for up to 3.5 years to support legal research at one of Australia's top law schools. The WA Cooke, Jane Cooke, and Alfred Godfrey Scholarship is designed to financially support law students undertaking high-impact legal research.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the 2026 Cooke and Alfred Godfrey Scholarship, you must:
1. Have an unconditional offer to study full-time in one of the following research degrees at Sydney Law School:
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
- Master of Criminology (MCrim) (Research)
- Master of Laws (LLM) (Research)
2. Be willing to conduct research in law
3. Hold at least one of the following qualifications in law:
- Honors degree (First Class or Second Class Upper) or equivalent
- Master’s degree by research
- Master’s degree by coursework with High Distinction/Distinction, including a research component equal to at least 25% of one year of full-time study
- Law degree + relevant research/professional experience deemed equivalent to First Class Honors
Note: Preference is given to commencing candidates, but currently enrolled full-time students demonstrating strong research progress may also be considered.
