The Government of Brunei Darussalam Scholarship is a fully funded opportunity for international students to study in Brunei at top institutions, including Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and other world-class universities.
Brunei is an oil-rich country in Southeast Asia with one of the highest standards of living globally. English is widely spoken, making it an attractive destination for international students.
Scholarship Overview
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Brunei Darussalam, invites applications for the Government of Brunei Darussalam Scholarship to Foreign Students for the 2026/2027 academic session. The scholarship supports studies at the following levels:
* Diploma
* Undergraduate Degree
* Postgraduate Master’s Degree

Successful applicants may study at:
* Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD)
* Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA)
* Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB)
* Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan (KUPU SB)
* Politeknik Brunei (PB)
Scholarship Benefits and Allowances
The scholarship is fully funded and includes:
* Full tuition and compulsory university fees
* One return economy-class air ticket to Brunei Darussalam
* On-campus accommodation at the institution’s residential college
* Monthly personal allowance: BND 500
* Monthly food allowance: BND 150
* Annual book allowance: BND 600
* Baggage allowance upon completion of studies:
- BND 250 (ASEAN countries)
- BND 500 (Non-ASEAN countries)
* Outpatient medical and dental treatment at Brunei government hospitals (administrative charges apply)
Note: Scholars who choose not to live in the provided accommodation will not receive additional housing or transport allowances. Any medical treatment at private hospitals or clinics will be at the scholar’s own expense.
Duration of the Scholarship
The scholarship is tenable for the minimum duration required to complete the programe:
* 4 years – First Degree with Honours
* 1–2 years – Master’s Degree
* 3 years – Doctoral Degree (UBD, UNISSA, ITB)
* 2.5 years – Higher National Diploma (ITB)
* 3 years – Diploma in Health Sciences (UBD)
All programes are on a full-time basis.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered, applicants must:
* Be 25 years old or below for Diploma and Undergraduate programes
* Be 35 years old or below for Postgraduate Master’s programes
* Meet English language requirements through one of the following:
- Credit 6 at GCE ‘O’ Level English
- Grade C in IGCSE English (Second Language)
- IELTS score of 6.0
- TOEFL score of 550
Important:
This scholarship is intended for international students studying in Brunei for the first time. Bruneian citizens, permanent residents, and international students who have studied or are studying in Brunei are not eligible.
Required Documents
Applicants must upload the following documents via the BDGS Application Form:
* Recent passport-size photograph
* Certified true copies of academic certificates and transcripts
* Certified English translations (if documents are not in English)
* Certified true copies of birth certificate and passport
* References and recommendation letters (C1 and C2)
