University of Michigan Fully Funded PhD Scholarship 2026


The University of Michigan Scholarship is a fully funded research opportunity for a Graduate Assistant role in Artificial Intelligence Monitoring. This 5-year PhD program provides full tuition coverage, an annual stipend of $41,308 (approx. $3,442 per month), plus health insurance.

Scholarship Details

Dr. Lauren Gillespie’s new lab at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor is recruiting PhD students to join in Fall 2026 for a fully funded PhD position. The research group at U-M’s School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) focuses on:

* Developing AI-integrated approaches for monitoring ecosystems at scale in the Anthropocene.

* Interdisciplinary research crossing AI methods, conservation decision-making, and field-based ecological methods.

* Uncovering the effects of rapid environmental change on species and improving ecological forecasting.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must:

* Hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.

* Have a strong interdisciplinary background in computer science, ecology, environmental science, data science, or GIS.

* Demonstrate intellectual curiosity and the capacity for independent research growth.

* Previous research experience is preferred but not mandatory.
