University of Idaho Graduate Scholarship 2025

The University of Idaho Graduate Scholarship is a fully funded research assistantship available to both domestic and international students. This opportunity offers hands-on experience working on a diverse, multidisciplinary project in range science, while gaining invaluable research skills, industry networks, and leadership experience.

Program Overview

The successful candidate will be housed in the University of Idaho (UI) College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Department of Animal, Veterinary, and Food Sciences. However, the position will be based at the Nancy M. Cummings Research, Extension, and Education Center (NMCREEC).

Key responsibilities include:

* Leading a team of students and seasonal technicians

* Collaborating closely with cattle producers

* Working alongside scientists and personnel from state and federal land management agencies

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must:

* Hold a completed Master’s degree in a related field within 3 months of starting the position

* Possess strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills

* Have a valid driver’s license

* Be willing to conduct field research in remote areas and variable weather conditions

* Be detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work independently or in a team

Preferred qualifications

* Passion for agriculture and range science

* Experience in:

  • Vegetation monitoring
  • Livestock handling
  • Agricultural technologies
  • Geographic mapping (ArcGIS, onX, etc.)

* Background in:

  • Living/working in rural environments
  • Ranching or farming
  • Operating 4WD vehicles, ATVs/UTVs, and towing trailers

* Demonstrated ability in:

  • Scientific publication or presentations
  • Grant writing
  • Stakeholder engagement

Scholarship Benefits

* Annual stipend of \$31,000

* Free housing in an on-site dormitory (individual sleeping space + shared living area)
