The European Union, in partnership with leading African universities, is offering the GREEN STEM Scholarship to empower African women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The scholarship supports graduate-level study at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, and other participating institutions. This is a fully-funded opportunity covering tuition, travel, visa, and a yearly stipend of €28,840. Scholarship Overview
The GREEN STEM program aims to strengthen Africa's Higher Education, Research, and Innovation capacity by funding intra-Africa mobility of talented students and staff.
* Up to 92 scholarships available
* Scholarships cover short- to long-term mobility programs
* Focus on entrepreneurship, innovation, and multi-cultural collaboration
Important: You can only apply if your host university (where you’ll study) is different from your home university (where you are currently studying or earned your degree).
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the GREEN STEM Scholarship 2025, applicants must:
* Be a woman of African nationality and reside in an African country
* Be currently enrolled in, admitted to, or have graduated from:
- One of the partner universities, or
- Another African university not listed as a partner institution
* Be willing to study at a partner university different from your home university
* Women with disabilities or specific needs are encouraged to apply and will receive appropriate support
Scholarship Benefits
Grantees will receive:
* Monthly Stipend:
- €890 for Master’s students
- €1,230 for Doctoral students
- €2,370 for Staff Exchange participants
* Visa, insurance, and application fees covered
* Full tuition waiver
* Travel expenses fully covered
* Special support for applicants with disabilities

The following universities are involved in the GREEN STEM program:
* University of Lagos, Nigeria
* University of Witwatersrand, South Africa
Applicants can only apply to a university that is not their current or previous institution.
How to Apply
1. Visit the official scholarship application website
2. Apply for a graduate degree program - Choose a partner university different from your home university
3. Complete the scholarship application - After applying to the degree program, submit a separate GREEN STEM scholarship application on the portal
4. Submit before the deadline - Only complete applications submitted on time will be considered
5. Wait for notification - Selected candidates will be contacted via email
