The MOFA Taiwan Fellowship 2026 is the largest fellowship funded by the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) for international scholars. This prestigious fellowship supports foreign professors, researchers, and PhD candidates conducting research in Taiwan on topics related to Taiwan, cross-strait relations, the Asia-Pacific region, and Sinology (Chinese studies). Since its inception, the fellowship has supported over 1,500 scholars from 93 countries.

Fellowship Overview

* Host Country: Taiwan

* Host Institutions: Taiwanese Universities & Research Institutes

* Duration: 3 to 12 months

* Deadline: June 30, 2025

* Location: Research to be conducted at approved Universities and institutions in Taiwan

Research topics must be related to:

* Taiwan

* Cross-strait relations

* The Asia-Pacific region

* Sinology (Chinese Studies)

Eligibility Criteria

This fellowship is open to:

* Foreign Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors

* Research Fellows, Associate Research Fellows, and Postdoctoral Researchers

* Doctoral Candidates or students enrolled in a PhD program

Note: Applicants must be nationals of countries with diplomatic or academic ties to Taiwan.

Financial Benefits

MOFA Taiwan Fellowship offers the following:

* Round-trip economy class airfare (direct route to/from Taiwan)

* Monthly Stipend:

  • NT\$60,000 for Professors, Associate Professors, and Senior Researchers
  • NT\$50,000 for Assistant Professors, Junior Researchers, or PhD Candidates

* Accident Insurance & Medical Insurance (for accidental injuries)

Required Documents

Prepare and submit the following:

1. Completed online application form

2. Research proposal (3 pages, standard academic format)

3. Curriculum Vitae (CV) including a list of publications

4. Two letters of recommendation, or one recommendation letter and one letter of consent from the head of your institution

2. Print the completed form after submission.
