The Marianne Initiative for Human Rights Defenders invites applications for its 2026 edition, a program designed to support individuals actively engaged in promoting and defending human rights across the globe. As part of the 9th World Congress Against the Death Penalty, scheduled for summer 2026 in Paris, special attention will be given to applicants working on this theme. However, all human rights-related fields are welcome and fully eligible.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the 2026 Marianne Initiative, you must:
* Be a human rights defender as recognized by the United Nations
* Be of non-French nationality and an adult, regardless of your country of residence
* Provide evidence or documents (e.g., recommendations, press articles) proving your human rights involvement
* Show that participating in this initiative would strengthen your human rights work and promote collaboration with French organizations
* Possess a valid passport (at least 6 months validity) or be willing to obtain one
* Not be legally restricted from leaving your country
* Be willing and available to travel to France from February to June 2026
Program Benefits
Selected participants will receive:
* Individual accommodation near Paris
* A monthly stipend to cover daily expenses
* A structured training program
* Personalized mentorship and support
* Networking opportunities with human rights organizations and stakeholders
Duration: 4 months (February – June 2026)
Note: The program does not offer support beyond this period.
