Top Hollywood actor Chris Evans bids goodbye to his beloved iPhone 6S

Every technology user is different, and even in an era where large displays and swipe gestures are the norms, there are still users who believe “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. Movie star Chris Evans was not ready to part ways with his iPhone 6S in an Instagram post he published with his beloved 2015 iPhone.

“I’ll miss your home button”, writes Evans in his Instagram post’s heartfelt ode to his six-year-old iPhone. “I won’t miss the nightly battle of trying to get your charge. Or your grainy pictures. Or your sudden drops from 100% battery, to 15%, to completely dead all within minutes. It was a wild ride. Rest easy, pal.”

To be clear, this post is absolutely not shaming Evans for having an old phone — in fact, I’d argue that the 6S is the best phone that Apple ever made, with its perfect hold-ability, headphone jack, and second-gen Touch ID. I’ve got nothing but respect for Evans for continuing to use it. It was, however, probably time to upgrade; Apple recently announced that the next version of iOS won’t support the 6S, which has kept getting software updates for seven years. Plus, the 6S didn’t have wireless charging, which means that when the Lightning port starts to wear out, you’re straight out of luck.

It sounds like Evans had issues with a degraded battery and perhaps a non-cooperative lightning port. Despite its age, the iPhone 6S was still officially supported on OS 15, but its end-of-life would have arrived with the public release of iOS 16 expected sometime in the fall.
